Aquaman 2 Release Uncertain as Negative Reviews Surface from Test Screenings

Aquaman 2: Multiple reports claim that new screenings of test subjects are performing extremely well

Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are under fire after reports emerged of poor-performing tests.

Fans have waited a long time for Jason Momoa’s next film, Aquaman. Multiple reports now confirm that poor screenings of the movie’s second sequel are occurring.

Big Screen Leaks supported ViewerAnon’s first report suggesting Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom conducted half a day of test screenings. Unfortunately, the results were negative for the James Wan film. Big Screen Leaks claims that the studio withheld information on the DCU movie’s status because the “test screenings” for it was “not good” while also saying that something “rarely happened in these test screenings happened with this film.” Sneider echoed those remarks, saying that Jason Momoa may be joining the long-rumored Lobo living-action project.

The early reports concerning Aquaman (and the Lost Kingdom) are alarming considering months’ worth of reports about how the Aquaman films franchise will be managed. This is despite rumors that Momoa might play Lobo at the DCU. The film will also feature Amber Heard theme actor, whose appearance has been controversial after the unpleasant details of Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit. Momoa began to tease a DC Studios dream project after meeting his co-CEOs, Peter Safran and James Gunn. Although Momoa hasn’t yet confirmed that he will portray Lobo in the DC Comics role, he is a passionate fan of the bounty-hunting DC Comics character. Momoa confirmed his love of Aquaman. However, he repeatedly hinted that he might be interested in other roles at the DCU.

Sneider also mentioned that the original Aquaman movie was “awful too”, a sentiment similar to what many critics have hurled at this film since its 2018 release. Momoa and Wan received praise for their work. But many reviews criticized the movie’s plot, dialogue, and direction. Despite these reservations, Aquaman became a great box-office smash, making $ 1.149 billion in global box-office gross, on a budget that included up to $200 million. In January, Momoa sat down with Gunn to discuss his character’s future. “I’m feeling f*king good. Aquaman isn’t going anywhere, so that’s fine,” he declared. “Everything is gonna be okay, we are still here and then we might be dipping into some other things.”

Aquaman is a good fit for the DCU

Aquaman in the Lost Kingdom was released during a period of major change at DC Studios. The arrival of Gunn, Safran, and a new TV and movie slate was announced last October. Also, Wonder Woman3 was axed and Henry Cavill’s role as Superman was dropped. Aquaman had to face a tough battle before Gunn or Safran arrived. Warner Bros. decreased Wan’s reshooting cost as they tried to reduce expenses during restructuring. Wan, who has already spent $ 205 million on filming the movie, has been forced to cut back due to this budget reduction.

The Aquaman second installment features Amber Heard (and Willem Dafoe), Nicole Kidman, and Patrick Wilson. There have been discussions regarding which Batman will appear In The Lost Kingdom. Michael Keaton is also linked. However, there are reports that Affleck might not be seen in the film. This is likely considering Affleck no longer plays Batman, despite his confirmation of ‘s The Flash – although Gunn has been speculated to possibly direct a DCU Film. However, Jason Momoa’s future with Aquaman remains uncertain.

Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom are in theaters starting Dec. 25.
